Morning Worship & Sunday School

  • 9:00 & 10:30 a.m. (Sept 9-May)

  • 9:30 only beginning May 26.

Fellowship -- complete with coffee and refreshments -- follows each worship service in the Light Court of the Education building (and outside in the summer months).

Childeren's Sunday School

  • 9:00 & 10:30 a.m. (at 9:30 during the summer months)
  • Children begin in worship and are excused following the Children’s "sermon" or First Steps

 

Adult Christian Exploration (ACE) Hour

  • Our Sunday morning adult education programs take place in the Seim Room, beginning at 10:15am (Sept-April). Advanced sign-up or consecutive Sunday attendance is not required. Simply grab a cup of coffee and join us on the second floor of the Education Bldg. During the program year, please consult Mindbenders for a complete listing of program offerings. (Our elevator is located at the north end of the Education Bldg and will take you to the second floor Seim Room, as well as Plymouth Hall and other widely-used rooms.)

 

Child & infant care is offered throughout the morning in Room 108

Recordings of our worship services are available on loan from the Kemper Library. If you miss a service or would like to share a recording with a friend, you’re free to borrow the CD from the library. (The CDs are located on top of the media cabinet, just to your right as you enter the Kemper Library.) Our sermons can also be found under the Sermon button to the right.

MORE ABOUT SUNDAY MORNINGS....

Our 9:00 and 10:30 AM services combine both traditional and contemporary forms of worship and music.  Sunday School for children is offered at both times.  Children normally attend the opening part of the worship service with their parents and are dismissed for Sunday school following "First Steps," a message delivered just for them on the front steps of the chancel.  Child care is available all morning. Adult Education opportunities are offered at 10:15am

Hearing devices are offered for those needing assistance.  Be sure to ask an usher to help you when you arrive.  

We typically celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of each month, as well as throughout the year in special seasonal services, such as at Thanksgiving or Maundy Thursday.  We practice an open Communion.  Anyone wishing to know the presence of Christ is welcome, regardless of church background or membership. (Our communion bread is now gluten free.)   

We are housed on a beautiful site north of Chestnut Street, between Central and Woodland Avenues.  The Sanctuary, built in 1929, offers an inspirational setting for worship.  Next to the Sanctuary is the three-story Education Building, the center for classes, meetings and activities.  Our buildings are accessible to the elderly and to the physically challenged, with ramps and minimal thresholds.  The Education Building has an elevator to the third floor at its north end.  The Education Building also houses our preschool and Kids' Day Out programs.  Its third floor is home to The Western Springs School of Talent Education.
