Sunday Morning Worship

GENERAL INFORMATION:

From September to May, join us for Sunday morning worship services at 8:45AM and 10AM in the Sanctuary. During the summer, we offer a single worship service in the Sanctuary at 9:30AM. During the month of July, we worship outdoors on the lawn (weather permitting) at 9:30AM.

Our services combine both traditional and contemporary forms of worship and music. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month, as well as throughout the year in special seasonal services, such as Thanksgiving or Maundy Thursday. We practice Open Communion: Anyone wishing to know the presence of Christ is welcome, regardless of church background or membership. Our communion bread is now gluten free.

From September to May, join us in the Parlor or Light Court of the Education building for a faith-filled coffee, food and fellowship hour before and after the 10AM worship.

During the summer months, Holy Grounds will take place on the lawn (weather permitting) following the 9:30AM worship service.

Adult Education opportunities are also offered during Holy Grounds. Check our calendar to discover the weekly topics.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Sunday School and Childcare:

Sunday School for children is offered during worship. Children normally attend the opening part of the service with their parents and are dismissed for Sunday school following “First Steps,” the message delivered just for them on the front steps of the chancel.

Children meet for Sunday school in the following groups: preschoolers, Kindergarten/1st grade, 2nd/3rd grade, 4th/5th grade, and 6th/7th grade; 8th graders meet for Confirmation in the morning during the fall and in the afternoon in the winter/spring. (During the summer months, Sunday school is offered through 5th grade only.)

Childcare is available for infants to 3-year-old children during worship.

For more information, visit the Children’s Ministries page on the website.

Information for the Hearing Impaired

For those with a hearing impairment, The First Congregational Church of Western Springs has a hearing loop system in the Sanctuary so you will never miss a moment of Sunday service. If you have a T-Coil-friendly hearing aid, enable the T-Switch functionality. The sound from the service will be transmitted to your hearing aid. Also, hearing devices are offered for those needing assistance. Ask an usher to help you when you arrive. If you prefer to use one of our hand-held FM hearing devices, please ask an usher for assistance.
